Florence Airport to Train Station and City Centre (Plus Pisa Airport)

Chauffeur meeting a couple with luggage, Florence airport to train station transfer

Florence airport to train station is an easy trip: the T2 tram runs from right outside the terminal to Santa Maria Novella in about 20 minutes. A taxi to the city centre has a fixed fare, and a private transfer takes you straight to your hotel door with your bags.

If you are flying into Pisa instead, the trip to Florence takes about an hour, and we cover that further down.

How do you get from Florence airport to the train station?

Take the T2 tram from the “Peretola – Aeroporto” stop, a 2-minute walk from arrivals, to Santa Maria Novella station; the ride takes about 20 minutes, according to Visit Tuscany. Buy your ticket from the machines at the stop, not on board.

The same source says tickets cost €1.50 and the tram runs daily from 5 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Check the luggage limits: large bags may need their own ticket, and very large or heavy cases are not allowed.

How far is Florence airport from the city centre?

Florence airport (Peretola) is only about 4 km from the historic centre, as Visit Tuscany notes. That short distance is why the tram ride into town takes only about 20 minutes.

The last stretch is where it gets tricky: much of the centre is a limited traffic zone, so how close a car can get depends on where your hotel is.

How much is a taxi from Florence airport?

A taxi from Florence airport to the city centre is a fixed fare of €22, plus supplements for luggage, night-time and holidays, per Visit Tuscany. For a taxi to Florence airport, ask the fare when you book or before you set off.

Taxis wait at the rank outside arrivals. Travellers with families or a lot of luggage often prefer to pre-book so the car is waiting for them.

When is a private transfer better than a taxi or tram?

A private transfer is worth it when you have heavy luggage, children, a group of more than four, or an early or late flight. Your driver tracks the flight and takes you to the door rather than the nearest tram stop.

We use real-time flight tracking for airport pickups, so a delay does not leave you stranded. Our Mercedes V-Class takes up to 7 passengers and the Sprinter up to 8, which avoids splitting a group across two taxis.

How do you get from Pisa airport to Florence?

Take the PisaMover shuttle to Pisa Centrale (about 5 minutes), then a train to Florence Santa Maria Novella, which takes 50 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, according to Visit Tuscany. Alternatively, a direct bus takes about an hour.

The PisaMover runs every 5 to 8 minutes from 6 a.m. to midnight. The Sky Bus Lines coach goes non-stop to Florence, stopping near the T2 tram’s Guidoni stop by day and at Santa Maria Novella at night.
